Gyrodata Educated Participants on its Solid-State OmegaX Surveying System During the SPE/IADC International Drilling Event

On March 6, 2019, Gyrodata’s Senior Technical Advisor, John Weston, highlighted a technical paper on our new, solid-state gyroscopic tool – the OmegaX TM at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)/ International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) International Conference and Exhibition at the World Forum in Hague, Netherlands.
Weston specifically highlighted the implications and operational benefits of this tool for precise wellbore placement. His technical paper (SPE-194130) focuses on the use of advanced solid-state gyroscopic sensors, which has now become a viable option for high-accuracy wellbore placement. This technical paper examines how new gyroscopic survey tools for wellbore surveying and real-time wellbore placement can be used. The new gyroscopic tool (the OmegaX) used in conjunction with magnetic survey methods to achieve high-accuracy surveys offers an efficient approach. The OmegaX system also provides a cost-effective way to provide quality control for measurement-while-drilling data and advanced magnetic models and corrections, such as in-field referencing and multi-station corrections.

“We hope the professionals attending the presentation gained a good understanding of the technology, its advantages over current tools and practices, and the value it adds to the wellbore placement.” Weston said.
At the event, our Gyrodata leaders also had the opportunity to network with other E&P industry leaders. (Attendees and presenters included executives, engineers and R&D professions from Gyrodata, Baker Hughes, BP, Chevron, Oil and Gas UK, Equinor, National Oilwell Varco, Schlumberger as well as other companies.) Operators, service companies and contract firms collaborated and displayed thought-provoking presentations about how to navigate in a low-commodity price environment. They also shared their wealth of knowledge regarding innovative tactics, tools and training courses that centered on key challenges and trends regarding oil and gas exploration and production. Additionally, a special session on diversity and inclusion was held on Wednesday, March 6th.
